Buffalo & Bison Hunts (Tags Without the Draw)

Most hunters chasing a buffalo hunt run into the same wall. State-issued bison tags are close to impossible to draw, and in some states the wait runs to decades of accumulated preference points.

Our guided buffalo hunts skip that entirely. On the private California ranch we book, no state draw tag is required. You book the hunt and the tag comes with it, so a hunt that would otherwise sit on a decades-long waitlist can happen this season. Shot opportunity on this hunt has run 100 percent, and most hunters are finished inside a day.

Serge has been arranging hunts like this for 35 years and has been booking them through Urge2Hunt since 2010. Call us and we will tell you whether this is the right buffalo hunt for you, or whether it isn't.

Where We Run Buffalo Hunts

We book one buffalo hunt, and we book it because it works. Rather than list every state where bison exist, here is the hunt we can actually put you on this season.

California Buffalo Hunt

Our California buffalo hunt runs on 3,000 acres of private ranch in the central part of the state. No state tag is needed, so there is no draw to enter and no waitlist to join. The hunt is scheduled as two days, though most hunters fill their tag on the first, and it typically takes about half an hour to locate the herd once you are out.

The hunt is open to solo hunters and scales to any group size. There is no caliber minimum, but you are shooting an animal that can pass 1,000 pounds, so bring something appropriate for it. A .223 or a 6.5 Creedmoor is not the right tool here.

What a Guided Buffalo Hunt Includes

A guided buffalo hunt takes the guesswork out of the process. You get professional guidance, private-land access, and an outfitter who has run this hunt enough times to know exactly where the animals will be. That leaves you free to focus on the hunt itself.

Booking through us means the property, the tag, and the logistics are handled before you arrive. Your outfitter walks you through location, tracking, and safety, and helps with trophy preparation and getting your animal to a processor. Whether you are after a trophy bull or a freezer full of meat, the hunt gets built around what you actually want out of it.

Working With Our Buffalo Hunting Outfitters

Every outfitter we book has been screened before a single hunter goes out. That means licensing verified, references called, and a track record we have watched across multiple seasons.

What you get:

  • Access to private buffalo hunting ground with no draw tag required

  • An outfitter screened before we ever sent a hunter there

  • Help with trophy preparation and transport

  • Planning handled end to end before you travel

  • Honest guidance on shot opportunity, not inflated promises

Buffalo Hunt FAQ

Do I need a buffalo tag for these hunts?

Not in the traditional draw sense. On a private-ranch hunt like our California buffalo hunt, no state tag is required because the animals are privately held. You still need a valid hunting license. We will walk you through exactly what is needed before you arrive.

What does a guided buffalo hunt cost?

Pricing depends on whether you are after a meat animal or a trophy bull, and beef prices have moved our rates over the past year. Call us for current pricing rather than working off a number you found somewhere else.
