Colorado Cow Elk Hunt
Our Colorado cow elk hunt is on private ground in northwest Colorado, three days in December and January. You stay in a motel in Silt or New Castle, and the guide picks you up each morning. It's a draw tag you can get with zero points.
Utah Cow Elk Hunts
Our Utah hunt is on thousands of acres of private land near Vernal, some of it planted in corn that keeps elk close. Tags have been over the counter or leftovers the last few years.
Idaho Cow Elk Hunts
Idaho offers some of the most affordable guided cow elk hunts in the West, with over-the-counter tags and strong shot opportunity. Great option for a first-time meat hunt.
Wyoming Cow Elk Hunts
Wyoming cow elk hunts run on private land with high shot opportunity in productive units. Residents buy cow tags over the counter, and nonresidents apply in the state draw by January 31. A great meat hunt at a fair price.
New Mexico Cow Elk Hunts
Our New Mexico cow elk hunt runs on private land near Chama with very high shot opportunity — a non-strenuous meat hunt suitable for hunters at any fitness level.
Cow Elk Hunt FAQ
Which state is best for a cow elk hunt?
It depends what you want out of it. Idaho has the longest track record: the ranch near Lava Hot Springs has given hunters a shot opportunity close to every time for more than ten years. Utah is the cheapest, at $2,421 guided or $922 if you hunt it yourself. In Wyoming, most hunters finish early on the three-day hunt. New Mexico, near Chama, is the least strenuous, since you glass from the truck and make a short stalk.
How much does a cow elk hunt cost compared to a bull hunt?
Our cow elk hunts run $922 to $3,595. Guided bull elk hunts start at $5,145, so a cow hunt costs roughly half as much. State tag and license fees aren't included on any of our cow elk hunts. What a guided elk hunt costs, by state breaks down the rest.
Do I need to draw a cow elk tag?
Not for most of these. Utah tags have been over the counter or leftovers for residents and nonresidents the last few years, and Washington's Roosevelt cow tag is over the counter. In Idaho, nonresidents buy over the counter in December and residents can buy any time. The New Mexico hunt comes with a landowner voucher. Colorado is a draw tag you can get with zero points, and Wyoming nonresidents apply by January 31 (residents buy over the counter).
